WIPO DAS (Digital Access Service) allows patent agents and offices to transfer certified copies of priority documents electronically. The priority documents are required for establishing the priority date for a patent application. This session discussed the historical context of the problem, and the two main scenarios in which priority documents need to be provided. Firstly in national phase entry of PCT applications, and secondly Paris Convention filings of patent applications. Topics covered in this webinar included:
- review of the historical context;
- review of the law and rules requiring providing certified copies of priority documents;
- introduction to WIPO DAS;
- detailed example for national phase entry of PCT application;
- detailed example for Paris Convention patent application, using US provisional patent application as the priority document;
- detailed instructions for setting up a watch in WIPO DAS.
